Like most entrepreneurs, Thurston has come across some challenges. In two years Candi & Co managed to open seven salons. This speedy growth needed more money for marketing, training and growing the team. Thurston says finding people who share and understand your vision is hard.

To start up her entrepreneurial venture Thurston used her savings. “I was quite frugal from an early age. When I was 18, in my first year at university, I opened my first savings account. When I started working at MTN and Unilever, I saved all my bonuses. “When I started talking to Sorbet, we all had to put in money for equal shareholding the savings helped a lot.”
Candi & Co is a franchise under the Sorbet Group umbrella. “Sorbet is in partnership with Candi & Co. I approached them because they have the expertise when it comes to operations and franchising.”
