Magubane explains the arduous process of marketing and distribution: “We approach different stores directly or through their head office. From there we are shortlisted. It is a long process because they need food certification along with health and safety certification. The product also needs to be traceable and comply with all requirements before it is accepted for retail.”

He  says it has been a difficult journey to get accepted as a credible supplier. “At first I had challenges, like people not having faith I would be able to deliver, as I was still new at it. Upon that I had to prove myself two times more than anybody else to earn trust from customers.”

Magubane has come a long way from struggling to support his siblings as the sole provider from the age of 16, working as a gardener to make ends meet. An experience that inspired him to help others turn around their lives.

An agreement, approved by the Speciality Coffee Association of Southern Africa (SCASA), states that a percentage of profits from Sihle’s Brew is dedicated to training underprivileged young people as baristas. But Sihle’s Brew does not end with providing exquisite blends to coffee lovers. Also on offer are exclusive brand events, with mobile barista counters with coffee machines and other accessories. In addition to supplying stores and coffee shops with coffee beans, Sihle’s Brew offers training to restaurant staff, ensuring the best methods are in place to serve quality coffee. Magubane says through the training programme they have seen remarkable improvement in the quality of coffee being served.
