'Mr Bitcoin: How I became a millionaire at 21' is an enchanting and honest memoir of Mpho Dagada’s transition from a young boy to a self-made millionaire. Published by Jacana Media, the short biography gives readers an insight into the not-so-glamorous journey of making it to the top.

The book is compelling yet relatable, as Dagada assumes a down-to-earth tone that conveys a very human approach to an achievement that any individual could easily take to the head. His narrative begins from early childhood, in which he grew up with grandparents, and runs through to his young adulthood as a Bitcoin expert.

What makes Dagada’s story even more inspiring is his refusal to portray it as perfect: he gives an in-depth account of his failures, some of which include falling for Ponzi schemes and losing money through some retrospectively bad decisions. At the same time, it is quite impressive to read the tale of a young man with wisdom and experience beyond his years, making this volume an absolute pleasure to read. In an easy-to-read format, the book summarises key lessons at the end of each chapter, which again, are strikingly wise.

More interestingly, through the detailed exploration of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general, Dagada makes the title of ‘Self-made millionaire’ seem somewhat accessible. This is not to say that it came easy. The achievement is one that rests heavily on knowledge, commitment, passion and a series of blunders that could have scared away a more faint-hearted patron.

Overall, Mr Bitcoin: How I became a millionaire at 21 is a practical and inspirational read, well worth the time and effort. Easy to process, compellingly real and undeniably touching, this one is set to have a place on our shelf for years to come
